BLASPHEMY!

Hillary? Tell a fib? O, that would never happen.

Observation: Alvin the Vacant doesn't appear to dig Portal. (An aside to [info]kaliflower: if you haven't heard this band, you need to investigate, and pronto.)

If you hear him howling around your kitchen door
Better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again
Werewolves of London

A quiet, normal life.

as i thought....

I definitely need to get the remastered version of this cd.

SATAN COMMANDS YOU!!!

... to listen to Ala Muerte right now.

The more metallic among ye (yes, [info]kaliflower and [info]kohntarkosz, I speaketh to you) will also want to check out Castrum, a fine bunch of metal flakes from the Ukraine. Die snugglepuff, who already had to suffer through them the other night while I was reviewing their new album PHENOMENONENSE, will probably want to pass....

girlschool! on youtube! w00t!

"Emergency" [2005 live version]

"Fox on the Run"

"Race With the Devil" *

"Yeah Right" *

"Please Don't Touch" [with Motorhead] *

"Hit and Run" *

"Screaming Blue Murder" **

"Come on Up"

"Furniture Fire" + "Race With the Devil" *

"Play Dirty" **

Girlschool was the first rock band I ever saw live (in 1982, at Reunion Arena in Dallas, opening for Iron Maiden and the Scorpions). I had a major case of the hots for the bass player in the band at the time (Gil Weston). They are still around and still good, although they've gone through so many lineup changes that I've lost count over the years of who's played when. Fun trivia fact: Kathy Valentine (bassist for the GoGos) was one of the original members, although she wasn't in the band long enough to actually record anything that I know of.

* Lineup including lead guitarist Kelly Johnson (RIP).

** The lineup I saw at Reunion Arena, with Gil Weston on bass.

... which, of course, is yet more SOPRANOS mania -- I checked out the last three discs of Season 6, Part 1. After this week I'll have to wait until the release of Part 2 in October, boo hoo.

But first, let me elaborate on the swell pile of listenables I got from Public Guilt today:

Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat -- IF THE SKY FALLS, WE SHALL CATCH LARKS
Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat -- INTERLUDE TO THE OUTERMOST
Black Engine -- KU KLUX KLOWNS
v/a -- AT THE DOORS OF THE PALACE: A PUBLIC GUILT/IMPLIED SOUND SAMPLER
Courtis / Kiritchenko / Moglass -- s/t
Tore Honore Boe -- MELTING SNOW
Raeo -- BODY LOOPS

O, the swellness! Incidentally, Black Engine is Zu plus some Japanese dude (I think) performing as a trio with a sound that's supposedly akin to early Swans crossed with early Painkiller. I can't decide if that's exciting or terrifying. I guess I'll find out soon enough, nu?

Speaking of restraining orders....

Actors and music: A crime against nature?

So was God impressed, or what?

OM is coming! OM is coming! o joy! o joy!

from the Southern Lord blog: )
You can see a clip of the band performing here.

Who will go with me to see the mighty Om on September 23rd?!?!?!!! [info]ginagwen, you and Danny and I should go see this -- the band rarely ever tours outside of Cali (in fact, I think this may be the first time they've played Austin), and how often do get the chance to see 2/3 of the mighty (but now sadly defunct) Sleep? Anybody who plays bass or drums should want to see one of rock's greatest rhythm sections in action....

I know what my next two musical purchases will be: The first and second cds by Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat. This 7" that's forthcoming on Public Guilt is seriously hot poop. This may be even more boss than the forthcoming Aluk Todolo cd that's coming out, uhhhhhh, soonish. (Yes, I've already heard it; yes, it crushes like a satanic pee dog.) Groovy hypno neo-psych-folk whatsits, great stuff....

I have finished the first season of THE SOPRANOS. Nifty stuff, and I look forward to the next season when I return to Vulcan later this week.

Just out of burning curiosity, does anybody out there happen to know exactly what former Obituary guitarist Allen West did to get his ass locked up? I am a curious cheese, indeed I am.... I have an advance copy of the album, incidentally, which I haven't bothered to listen to yet. It sure has a garish cover, even for an Obituary release.

The smell of dumbness is everywhere here.

Mindy just can't stay out of trouble, huh?

Newt's always good for a laugh or two.

wee li'l kitties

I went over to the home of [info]says_simon and [info]ilovesimonpur to eat chicken wings (the lemon pepper ones were particularly scrumptious) and watch STEELY DAN: THE MAKING OF AJA -- and to see the kitties. They have a cat (temporarily) who in nursing four eight-day old kitties. Oooo, kitties! They are itsy-bitsy (the biggest one weighs 170 grams) and their eyes aren't open yet, and when I picked any of them up, the kitty would emit tiny, tiny meows. Talk about an overload of cuteness.... Their dog Chelsea turned out to be enthusiastically friendly as well. Much fun was had by all, w00t!

EDIT: Wikipedia entry on Ian Dury, for the benefit of my hosts who didn't recognize him. I was really surprised to see him in a Steely Dan documentary. Just goes to show that the world is stranger than even I can imagine.

And now I am home, about to watch HOFFA and SYMPATHY FOR THE UNDERDOG before going to work on the book....

Tammy Faye, gone to the Great Gig in the Sky.

WARNING: TENSHI: FNORD: lolcat haters, venture not beyond this point: )

Posted mainly for the benefit of [info]kaliflower, although the rest of you can feel free to grok it as well. Cribbed from the Hertz-Lion email list, natch:

Subject: The music of Rod Poole
From: Devin Sarno (sound [at] devinsarno [dot] com)
Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2007 21:49:10 -0700

Sorry for the mass email, but just to let you know: I have been able
to make the late Rod Poole's long out-of-print W.I.N. Records solo CDs
("The Death Adder" and "December 96") available once again, digitally,
via iTunes & most major online distributors. Forthcoming also will be
Rod's piece from the out-of-print compilation "The Poop Alley Tapes"
("Dark Light Approaching Reason"), which will be available as a digital
EP.

I ask you all to help spread the word to anyone you may know who might
be interested in this opportunity to hear Rod's music once again (as I
dont have many people's e-mail addresses who should be made aware of
this).

All proceeds of sales will be going to Rod's wife, Lisa.
Hot poop! Relapse Records is releasing the reissue of Harvey Milk's first album later this month. I need it, I need it, I need it... oooo....
Wait... um... Lemmy likes Evanescence?!?!!! Truly, the mind reels....

I watched the first four episodes of THE SOPRANOS tonight. Swell stuff, although nowhere near as violent as I had been led to expect (maybe the violence factor ratchets up later?). It's extremely surreal to see Little Steven as a mobster, particularly since I can still remember when he was known primarily as a player in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and he looked more like this. It's also amusing to see so many familiar faces from GOODFELLAS. So far, I greatly like what I see... so much, in fact, that I'm seriously debating breaking out the second disc and watching the next four episodes before bedtime (which, if I do that, will end up being around four in the morning -- good thing I'm off for the 4th, huh?).
